Foundations are my first love, but anyone with oily skin understands the struggle of keeping our
oils at bay. Between the blotting, touch ups, and mirror checks, it seems like our job to stay matte is never over. There are several tips and tricks to help control oils throughout the day, but the most important is finding the right foundation for your skin. Today I will talk about my favorite high end foundations for oily skin so if you have been searching for your holy grail, keep on reading.
I have tried several foundations over the years. Emphasis on SEVERAL. Even when I found a foundation that worked, it was almost like my skin got used to it and the oils would break through after a few weeks or so. Now I am not sure if this even makes sense, but I am telling you, this happens.
I do not usually wear the same foundation everyday and what I choose really depends on the amount of coverage and finish I am looking for. I will explain the pros and cons of each choice so hopefully this helps you to find your perfect match. Before we begin let me start by saying that these are not ranked in any particular order. Also, I apply every foundation listed with a sponge to reduce the appearance of pores and reduce the cake-face.

This probably comes as no surprise as this foundation is a must-have for most people with oily skin as this foundation really is a winner for many. I will stay matte all day long for several hours at a time. I’m talking 12+ hours. Humidity is such an issue for me since I live in Florida and very few foundations can withstand it, but this one does beautifully.
My biggest complaint about Double Wear is it looks “Double Heavy” on the skin. Sponge application helps to cut down on the heaviness, but there is no getting rid of it. I find this sort of odd because this is not the most full coverage foundation I’ve ever tried. Actually, I would say it is more medium-full.
I save this one for special occasions or for times I know I will be outside in the heat and probably be sweating my ass off. Either way, it is a must-have.
I was really shocked to see the reviews on this foundation after its release because they really weren’t as good as I was expecting them to be. I have never been a huge Bare Minerals fan, mainly because I am not big on powder foundations. Powders never seem to give me the coverage I’m looking for and usually look heavy on my skin.
I surprised when I really ended up loving this product. It is a full coverage foundation with a very matte finish. Although not as heavy as the Double Wear, this formula still requires a bit of work to blend out and prevent heaviness. I find this to be a common characteristic with matte full coverage foundations so to help prevent this, I recommend using gentle exfoliator before applying.
So this is a weird one. I actually ordered this from Sephora, tried it, and returned it the first go around. The color was off and I really wasn’t happy with the coverage. The problem I have with Too Faced foundation is the undertones are so off. I have neutral undertones and all of their undertones are yellow on me. When I originally tried this product, my acne was much worse than it is now and the coverage just didn’t cut it.
This formula definitely is not full coverage on me so I think that is why I was unhappy with it on my acne-prone skin. My friend is obsessed with this foundation so I re-ordered it and chose the shade with rosey undertones thinking it would cancel out the yellow. It definitely did not. I kept the foundation this time because I am much happier with the coverage on my current skin and I just mix it with a drop of Wet n Wild Photo Focus to lighten it up.
This foundation does stay matte for most of the day. I don’t start showing oils until about the 8-9 hour mark and even then it’s easily solved with a touch up. I love love love the finish of this foundation. It looks much more natural than some of my previous selections. If you are looking for a natural, medium coverage foundation, definitely give this one a shot.
This brand…perhaps the most controversial topic of 2017. Some people love it, some people hate it. Some people hate Rihanna so they hate the brand. Some people love Rihanna so they support the brand. It all makes me laugh really. Honestly, I just enjoyed the formula. This is definitely a matte finish so you need a good moisturizer and primer under this foundation. Yes, even if you are the oiliest of us oilies, you NEED a good moisturizer.
This formula can make even the most oily face look dry. The good news is if you moisturize well and apply a good primer this foundation is really nice. It keeps me matte almost all day long and looks good on my skin.
The undertones… oh the undertones. YES GIRL! The color choice is good, don’t get me wrong. But the undertones are what have me shook. Neutral is neutral, pink is pink, golden is golden, and deep is deep. Yes I kinda rhymed. I’m good like that.
So prep your skin before applying, apply with your handy sponge, and this formula will work beautifully.
And there we have it. My top high end foundations for oily skin. I hope you guys enjoyed this post and find it helpful when deciding your next foundation.
