Hey guys! We just learned all about Ulta’s rewards program and why it’s so amazing. If you missed it, check it out here. Now we learn how to make the most out of this program. Some of you might be concerned about how long it will take to save up 2000 points with this program, but worry not! It really is not as difficult as it may seem. If you are new to Ulta and are not yet a member, sign up here.
The best way to maximize your shopping trip at Ulta and earn your way to your next $125.00 reward is to watch for the accelerators. If you are subscribed and receive emails from Ulta, they will notify you when promotions are going on and which products, brands, or categories they apply to.
In this example, platinum members will receive 5x points on all products and services and non-platinum members will receive 3x points. You reach platinum status when $450 is spent throughout the calendar year.
This is a perfect time to shop. Assuming your point bucket is 0, you would need to spend $2,000 to receive your $125.00 reward in points. If shopping during this 5x accelerator, that $2,000 becomes $400. This is a HUGE difference. I understand $400 is still quite a bit of money, but remember that you do not have to spend this all in one shopping trip. The points will accumulate until the end of the quarter, one year after they are earned. Points for platinum members never expire.
Another great way to earn bonus points is to combine accelerators. For example, if I qualify for 5x points on all products and services during this promotional period and there is also a 3x accelerator for Tarte purchases, I can buy any Tarte product and earn my 7x points on each Tarte item.
I know what you’re thinking. Wouldn’t it be 8x points?
Now simple math would force us to assume that we would receive 8x points (5x + 3x), but the accelerators are including the 1 base point you would already be receiving. For example: the 5x accelerator is your 1 base point + 4 bonus points. The 3x accelerator is 1 base point + 2 bonus points. So you can not count the base point twice. You would receive your 1 base point + the bonus points which would total to 7 points.
For us Platinum members:
Platinum members receive 1.25 base points for each dollar spent instead of 1. It is important to remember that this 1.25 base point also does not multiply.
How to do the math:
The easiest way to figure up your points earned is by breaking everything down and taking your base points out first. Let’s assume that it is your birthday month and you receive 2x points on all items. You also have a 5x point accelerator on Anastasia Beverly Hills. Here is a breakdown of how many points you would receive:
Item purchased: Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade for $18
Base Point: 1 x $18 = 18 Points
Birthday Point Bonus: 2x- 1 Base Point= 1 Point x $18= 18 Points
Anastasia Accelerator: 5x – 1 Base Point = 4 Bonus Points x $18 = 72 Points
Total Points Earned: 108
You can see how important it is to shop at the right times. I will often times try and wait until promotions begin to shop if I can help it. It doesn’t always work out this way, but it is a good habit to try and get into.
It is important to note that salon services qualify for earning and redeeming points so if you are someone who gets their hair professionally done every 4-8 weeks, consider finding an Ulta salon near you. You can check locations here.
