Sephora has always had a reputation of being the high-end beauty store. With loud upbeat music and contrasting black and white displays, Sephora’s atmosphere screams couture.
I think it is no secret that Sephora and Ulta are somewhat “rivals” and it makes perfect sense as to why. As far as beauty stores go, they are the Top Dogs. Only recently has online retailers such as HSN, QVC, and Beautylish stepped up and tried to compete, but the original Top Dogs still dominate.
With both companies fighting for first place, exclusive product line launches with one store or the other are becoming more and more common. I think most of us still have our store of choice, but even at that, exclusives still force us to shop at both to get all of the products we need and want. With this being said, it is important to participate in loyalty programs with both stores.
If your loyalty remains with Ulta, click here for an in-depth guide to Ulta’s reward program.
Tip #1: Sign Up To Be A Sephora Beauty Insider
Sephora’s loyalty program, also known as Beauty Insider, is a point-based system where members earn points per dollar spent either in store or online. Points earned can be used in the “Rewards Bazaar” which is Sephora’s exclusive store that houses products of all types. Members can finds anything from trial sized miniatures to one-of-a-kind opportunities to attend Master Classes with some of the makeup industries finest.
If you are going to shop at Sephora, why not be rewarded for it? Plus, I always feel better about the endless amounts of money I spend on beauty products when I feel I’m getting a little something extra in return.
Sephora has 3 tiers to the Beauty Insider program and members graduate from one tier to the next based on the dollars spent in a calendar year. Perhaps the most rewarding feature of being a Rouge Member, the highest tier in the Beauty Insider program, is the exclusive product launches. Every once in a while I will open my Sephora App and see an early release for a product that only Rouge members have access to. Now if you are like me and are terrible at waiting for launch day, this is a huge plus.
Tip #2: Check The Rewards Bazaar Early and Often on Tuesdays and Thursdays
The Reward Bazaar is updated every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the day and gifts go quick so I recommend checking early and often to grab what you want. Certain high priced products are also very limited and sometimes available in quantities as few as 1. If you see something you can afford and can’t live without, grab it quick as it may not be there in a few minutes.
Similar to Ulta’s reward points system, I recommend letting your points accumulate for larger rewards. Sephora always has an abundance of 100 point items such as trial and travel sized products. These are great if you see something you’ve been wanting to try, but I don’t recommend cashing all of your points in for 10+ trial sized items. Save your points for a larger reward. I think you will be happy you waited.
Tip #3: Take Advantage of Samples Available With Online Purchases
One of my favorite things about shopping online with Sephora is the occasional free samples they offer with purchase. Online shoppers often times have the opportunity of adding featured trial sized items to their order at no additional cost, as long as the shopping cart threshold is met.
To find which items are available, visit the Beauty Offers section in the Sephora app or on the website. This section shows all trial sized items available with purchase and which promo codes to use at checkout to make sure your bonus item is added. It is important to remember that online one offer may redeemed per order so if you see 2 different items free with a $25+ purchase, you’ll need to decide which on you can’t live without.
I find these Beauty Offers to make Sephora’s online shopping experience a bit better than shopping in store. I once received a trial size sample of the new Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r foundation which came in .5 oz bottle. I was surprised at the generous amount of the sample considering the full-sized bottle is 1.08 oz. This trial size gave me almost half of a bottle and I was able to get quite a few faces out of it. I ended up loving the foundation and purchased the full size bottle.
Tip #4: Take Advantage of Point Accelerators
Similar to Ulta’s system, Sephora will sometimes run promotions with point accelerators on specific products, categories, and sometimes on everything. I recommend downloading the Sephora app so you can easily keep track of and watch for these promotions. Point accelerators can be found under the Beauty Offers section in the app or website and are usually located at the top of the list. Pay attention to which products are included in the accelerator so you can really take advantage of the promotion.
