Beauty brands are popping up like crazy these days! New product launches flood my social media accounts on a regular basis and even I am getting overwhelmed.
With so many brands and products to choose from, consumers in the beauty industry have an overwhelming number of options. We don’t have to look far to find products that suit our needs, style, or budget.
Brands pretty much fall into one of three categories, which are:
- The brand is well established and has a social media following to support almost all product launches. Top tier brands have the funds and resources to consistently release new products, keeping up with the latest trends, and therefore maintaining relevancy.
- The brand is a mid-level brand and has a large enough following to remain mainstream, but product launches are not as consistent. Mid-level brands continue to build their following and put a larger emphasis on product launches since they are not as frequent.
- Smaller brands are often washed out due to their inability to keep up with trends. Due to financial restrictions and lack of resources, smaller beauty brands are unable to release products at the same pace and become irrelevant sooner than they can take off.
Now, I am not saying that every brand with X number of followers automatically falls into said category. This is more so a generalization to make a point.
My social media feeds are filled with primarily beauty brands. I pay attention to trends, product launches, influencer reposts, and customer service.
I pay attention to the way companies respond to customer complaints and praises, which influencers they repost, what their company stands for and if that message is portrayed through their responses and actions.
Beauty Brand Of The Month is a new series here on Beauty With A Side Of Glitter and was created with the idea of shouting out brands with exceptional product quality, unique design, rare culture, or any other idea that separates them from the rest.
I’m starting this series out by shouting out a brand who hits several of these key points. A brand who’s customer service is time and time again proven to be a notch above the rest. A brand who’s CEO is as active on social media as any social media manager receiving a bi-weekly paycheck.
Our first brand chosen as Beauty Brand Of The Month is:
Coloured Raine is a female-owned brand who stands for diversity and acceptance for all in the industry. CEO, Loraine R. Dowdy founded Coloured Raine in 2013 and has fought adversity to achieve her dream. In Coloured Raine’s company history, Loraine encourages everyone to continue chasing their dreams no matter who tries to stand in the way.
More on the history of Coloured Raine and Loraine Dowdy can be found here.
What really made Coloured Raine stand out for me is how consistent they are at responding to customers and followers on social media. More particularly, how consistent their brand owner is at responding.
Loraine is unlike most brand owners I have seen. She is incredibly active in the community and stops at nothing to ensure her customers are satisfied.
But she doesn’t just stop at customer service. Her love for finding new talent is unprecedented. Most brands base artists worthiness on their number of followers and level of engagement. Loraine looks at talent, consistency, and passion.
She doesn’t allow a small following to deter her support but instead treats each artist with the level of attention and respect they deserve. I find this to be such a refreshing quality in a brand and one that is hard to come by.
Coloured Raine also supports other beauty brands in the industry. They don’t view others as competition but give credit where credit is due.
It is this level of maturity, integrity, and support that I believe will continue to push Coloured Raine to success. Our industry is sometimes so quick to tear each other down in hopes of building our own individual success. I hope companies like Coloured Raine continue to stand up and go against the flow to bring back a healthy and encouraging environment.
I have yet to try Coloured Raine’s products personally and cannot speak to the quality or performance, but what I can speak to is the industry-wide change this company has started. I can feel a revolution about to take place.
Our industry is filled with so many options, I encourage everyone to support brands that support consumers and artists alike.
